The next part of our cruise was a trip up Glacier Bay. We spent a lot of our time sitting on our balcony enjoying the beautiful scenery, and we were glad we remembered to bring our down jackets. It’s really cold when you get close to those massive glaciers.
They told us the names of all the glaciers, and we even bought a book, but it’s been six months and you know how that goes.
Wow, rivers of ice!
If you look very carefully at the lower left of the photo you can see people standing on the beach. The glaciers are HUGE!
The glacier calved here.
These people must have had inside cabins, and I’m sure they were cold out there. I wonder if that’s the captain in the nice warm glassed in room.
Calving! Bob took these pictures, and I think he did a great job!
It’s so hard to leave any pictures out. It was just so beautiful.
There were a lot of icebergs in the water, and I wasn’t too nervous about them.
This was in College Fjord, and the captain said he was taking us closer to the glacier than than he’s taken a ship in years. We were lucky because there was an open spot in the middle of the icebergs, and the ship would fit.
The cruise up Glacier Bay was fantastic. We really enjoyed it, but when we sailed back down we had to sail in open water and we just happened to encounter a storm at sea. It only lasted a day, but Bob got seasick.
All in all, we did have a fun time and enjoyed our one and only cruise. I don’t think I can talk Bob into trying a cruise again, but the next part of our trip was great fun too. It’ll be the next post, so stay tuned!
