Our Newest Grand

Yes!  We have another grandbaby, and we think she’s really grand!  She was born two days before Christmas.  What a wonderful Christmas gift!

Meet Quinn Thomas Cox.  Isn't she pretty!

I think she’s saying, “I love you Gammy!”

Beth said she loves her stroller rides.

Quinn looks so much like Beth when she was a baby.

She’s showing Pappy her new walking skills.

Here they are:  Conner, Katie, and Baby Quinn.  Our three Grands, and we just think they’re all GRAND!

Katie was so happy when Aunt Beth said she could hold Baby Quinn.  She didn’t know babies are so wriggly!

Conner really loves Quinn.  He’s such a big boy, and loves to help his baby cousin.

We all love our new Baby Quinn!

More fun in Bar Harbor

Last year Jaime and Conner came to spend some time with us in Bar Harbor, and this year Beth and Andrew came for a few days!
IMG_1682
We picked them up in Bangor, and I had my camera ready!

IMG_1684
Yes, we took them to the top of Cadillac Mountain, and it was much warmer than it was when Jaime and Conner were here.

IMG_1694
They all look great, and I look like I’m ready to be blown away!

IMG_1697
Beth and Andrew enjoyed seeing the Bass Harbor Lighthouse, but I was afraid of Beth hiking over those rocks.  I thought she should be more careful, but this little future mommy scampered over those rocks easily.

IMG_1705
It was an easy walk through the blueberry fields to get back to their motel.

IMG_1708
IMG_1714
It’s lobster time!  We ate lobster, clams, and steamers, and loved them all.

IMG_1717
The Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound isn’t fancy, but it's our favorite place to go for lobster.

IMG_1721
We told them about the Carriage Roads, and how great it was biking them, so Beth and Andrew went biking too!

IMG_1718
Our next stop was at the Jordon Pond House for lunch after our bike ride through the Park.

IMG_1723
They left us in their dust on Gorham Mountain Trail.

IMG_1726
We really enjoyed our time with Beth and Andrew, but when they left the Government decided to shut the whole National Park System down!

IMG_1756
IMG_1755
All the roads were blocked.  What a shame.

IMG_1765
Ha!  We had bikes and just rode around the barricades.  What could have been a real disappointment turned out to be a lot of fun for us.  No cars on the Park Loop Road!  We road the entire road, and had a really fun time.

IMG_1734
We saw things you miss when you fly past in a car.

IMG_1735IMG_1741
OK Bob, you really shouldn’t try to push Bubble Rock off it’s perch!

IMG_1742
That’s me at the top of the South Bubble Trail.

IMG_1744
Isn’t this bridge pretty?

IMG_1747
This is the way they handle trails across swampy areas.

IMG_1750
Guess who’s trying to figure out where we are!

John D. Rockefeller loved to build bridges,

IMG_1763
and he made sure they were beautiful.

IMG_1766
It’s usually very crowded here, but the government kept everyone out except for hikers and bikers.

IMG_1768
IMG_1773
It was a quiet and peaceful place to have lunch.

IMG_1781
I love the Maine coastline, and I think I’d really like to own this house.

IMG_1786IMG_1788
The trails are all marked with trail names and mileage.

IMG_1770
No cars, only bikes, and the government shut down was a gift to us.

IMG_1810
Where is Bob?  I think we’re out of Maine now and hitting the New York wine trail.  Stay tuned!

We’re Heading North – sort of

It’s September and time to head north, but we had to take the camper for a few adjustments, so we headed west to Indiana before we went north.

IMG_1589
After the camper was fixed we did head north, and stopped in Erie, PA.  We were really lucky, because there just happened to be a parade of tall ships that weekend, and the ships were just awesome.

IMG_1600
We navigate using our GPS unit, but these ships had none of that.  Compasses and sextants were more their style.

IMG_1603
See this guy?  He’s actually a U.S. Marine!  He demonstrated his rifle loading skills and gave a little talk.  He told us when and where the Marines were founded, but I already knew that compliments of my favorite former Marine!

IMG_1614
IMG_1622
Aren't they beautiful?

IMG_1623
So many ropes!  It all looked so confusing, but I bet it’s fun to sail on one of these beauties.

IMG_1625
There’s not much head room down here, and those bags held all the sailors' possessions.  The storage space here isn't as efficient as in our camper.

IMG_1628
After we left Erie we headed to Niagara, New York, through Pennsylvania wine country.  I guess the winds from Lake Erie are good for grapevines.

IMG_1630

IMG_1642
Bob had been to see The Niagara Falls before, but this was my first trip and I loved them.  They’re so beautiful, but the current was fast and I couldn't even imagine wanting to go over in a barrel!!!

IMG_1646
The Maids of the Mist were busy the day were were there, but I was not interested in riding a little boat near those massive waterfalls.

IMG_1650
We just happened upon Prince Harry shaking the hand of this young lady.  He seemed rather stiff to me!

IMG_1659
Unfortunately we forgot our passports in the camper so we couldn't see the Canadian view of the Horseshoe Falls.

IMG_1667

IMG_1672
While continuing north we spend a few nights in New Hampshire. The people of the tiny village of Dixville Notch vote in this hotel and record the first election results in the presidential election.  I guess it’s not that difficult with 12 people in the town, but the hotel was beautiful.

IMG_1677
We finally reached Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park.  There are always cruise ships in the bay.

IMG_1678
We had a nice site in the campground, with a bay view, and the moon was bright and beautiful.
We love Bar Harbor, and had fun with Jaime and Conner here last year.  This year we were lucky enough to have two more visitors, and we’ll tell you who came to see us in our next post.
